Look up a scale. Read its degrees. Hear the notes.

Relative modes share the parent’s pitch classes and start on different degrees. For a fixed tonic across different mode patterns, open Grimoire’s parallel-mode view.

    Staff notation and MIDI use sounding concert pitch; guitar notation is often written an octave above its sound. Your DAW may call MIDI 60 C3 or C5 rather than C4.

    Use the notes musically

    Hold the selected mode’s tonic as a drone, play a short phrase, and land on that tonic. Sharing notes does not make two modes sound identical; phrasing and harmony establish the center.

    Heptatonic spellings use one letter per degree, including E♯, C♭ and double accidentals where needed. Symmetric and chromatic collections can repeat letters. Exact formulas identify uncommon or ambiguous names; traditional tuning and bends can extend beyond this 12-TET reference.
